Plant Metabolic Biochemistry, Genomics and Synthetic Biology
Department of Biological Sciences
University of Calgary
Applications are invited for a postdoctoral fellowship in the field of plant specialized
metabolic biochemistry in the Department of Biological Sciences at the University of Calgary.
Successful applicants will join a dynamic research group recognized for leading-edge contributions
in the area of plant alkaloid biosynthesis (http://contacts.ucalgary.ca/info/bio/profiles/124-1518).
Potential research projects include the isolation of new biosynthetic genes, the mechanistic and
structural characterization of novel enzymes, development of a cellular model for alkaloid metabolism
using plant systems biology, and the reconstitution of plant alkaloid pathways in engineered
microorganisms based on synthetic biology. The laboratory is well equipped to support a wide range of
research interests. Applicants must have a strong research background in biochemistry or molecular biology.
The position is available immediately and applications will be accepted until a suitable candidate is found.
Candidates must have obtained a PhD within the past 3 years, or are scheduled to defend a doctoral thesis
within the next 6 months. Applications should be submitted by e-mail to Professor Peter Facchini
