POSTDOCTORAL FELLOW POSITION IN ANTI-FUNGAL CROP PROTECTION TECHNOLOGIES

03 Sep 2021 16:01 | Anonymous member (Administrator)
Applications are invited for a two-year postdoctoral position in the Department of Biological Sciences at the University of Manitoba in Winnipeg, Canada. The successful applicant will work on the development of spray and host induced gene silencing technologies in the control of fungal pathogens. The global agriculture industry has been under pressure to find new, innovative, and environmentally sustainable ways to control fungal pathogens. Our recent discoveries using RNA interference technology show that this technology is capable of protecting plants against fungal pathogens as both foliar sprays or using a transgenic approach. The purpose of this project is to develop both spray and host induced gene silencing technologies using novel double stranded RNA structures in the control of fungal pathogens. Specifically, the objectives of this research are 1) identify new fungal gene targets and dsRNA structures in the control and application of both foliar sprays and transgenic plants and 2) characterize the mode of action of these technologies in vitro and in planta. The position requires highly motivated individuals with excellent written and oral communication skills and great interpersonal skills. This position is expected to commence on December 1, 2021 and end on November 30, 2023. Salary Range is $36,000 - $45,000 CAD, Commensurate with qualifications and experience
