Description: Whether you’re applying for your first teaching position or preparing materials for tenure, promotion, or awards, being able to show clear evidence of your teaching excellence can make a powerful impact. This interactive workshop will guide participants in identifying, organizing, and reflecting on the evidence that best demonstrates their teaching effectiveness. Facilitators from both ASPB and CSPB, with experience preparing and evaluating evidence of teaching will share examples and discuss where such materials are used, including teaching philosophies, teaching dossiers, and teaching portfolios. These documents describe and substantiate an instructor’s approach, impact, and effectiveness in teaching. Through structured activities, participants will brainstorm examples, practice framing their own evidence, and receive feedback. Everyone will leave with ideas grounded in their own teaching experiences and practical strategies to continue building a compelling record of teaching effectiveness.
Objectives:
- Recognize how evidence of teaching effectiveness is used across academic contexts and career stages.
- Identify forms of qualitative and quantitative evidence from your own teaching experience suitable for inclusion in dossiers, portfolios, and teaching statements.
- Practice framing your evidence to align with your teaching values and the priorities of the institution, and receive and incorporate peer feedback to refine your evidence.
- Develop a structured plan to continue building and strengthening your evidence of teaching effectiveness.
