Description: The syllabus has long been a cornerstone of university teaching, introducing students to the structure and expectations of a course. But this familiar document may not be as straightforward as it seems—its role in the future of teaching is evolving.

Join us for an interactive, online workshop on designing syllabi that set the stage for student success! Whether you're an experienced instructor or looking to build your teaching skills, this session will provide practical strategies for making your syllabus a meaningful and engaging tool. Drawing on education research, we’ll explore the purpose and key components of a syllabus, best practices for syllabus design, strategies to encourage students to read and use it, and alternative formats such as visual or video syllabi. This session is a great opportunity to exchange ideas and refine your approach to syllabus design. Bring your experiences and questions—we look forward to a lively conversation!

This event is part of the Canadian Society of Plant Biologists Teaching Community of Practice. However, you do not need to be a member to participate. We welcome attendees at all career stages, so if you know someone who might be interested, please share this invitation

Description: Does it happen in your classroom? Do your students really know what constitutes plagiarism? Chances are that anywhere between 5 to 15 % of your students are submitting plagiarized works. Sometimes intentionally, sometimes unknowingly. How do you detect plagiarism? How do you deal with the large spectrum of not-straightforward cases of plagiarism? How do we teach students? What should the sanctions be? These questions will be addressed in the workshop. Your input is welcome.
