    The Department of Plant Science, University of Manitoba (https://umanitoba.ca/agricultural-food-sciences/plant-science) invites applications for a M.Sc. position starting Sept. 2026.  The research project focuses on the interaction between canola (B. napus) plants and Verticillium longisporium using a combination of anatomical, physiological and molecular approaches to unveil defence mechanisms.

    Postdoctoral Position in Plant memory, epigenome diversity and sustainable agriculture.

    A postdoctoral position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Braeutigam for an exceptional candidate to lead research on epigenome diversity in sustainable agriculture. The incumbent will study epigenomic imprints of diverging farming practices, along with plant physiology and plant growth for an integrated understanding of plant-human relations. The candidate will be part of a transdisciplinary team that combines cell and molecular systems biology with sociocultural anthropologies and citizen science to investigate resilience of cropping systems. The individual will work under the supervision of Dr. Braeutigam and collaborate with Dr. Linton (Huron University).

    Applicants should have a PhD in plant biology, molecular biology, genetics or related fields and hands-on experience with molecular biology, epigenome profiling, bioinformatic analysis of high-throughput sequencing data, plant phenotyping and/or plant physiology. A keen interest in transdisciplinary research, excellent communication skills and the ability to coordinate with project team members, external collaborators and diverse stakeholders are essential.

    Applications are invited for an M.Sc. position in the Department of Biology at Western University (www.uwo.ca/biology), starting in either May or September 2026. The research project focuses on improving key traits in forage crops using advanced gene-editing technologies.

    The successful candidate will receive comprehensive training in molecular biology, genomics, physiology, and related disciplines. Research will be conducted at the Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada (AAFC) Research Station, which offers state-of-the-art facilities for biotechnology, molecular biology, and genomics, and is located a short distance from the Western University campus.     The Department of Botany seeks candidates for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in the area of Non-Seed Plant Diversity with an expected start date of July 1, 2026. This is a full-time position with an expected starting salary range of $120,000 to $135,000 per annum.     Opening for a Postdoctoral Researcher position at the University of Calgary and Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada (AAFC) for research on drought resilience in peas, as part of the PEACE (Pea Climater Efficient) Genome Canada funded project. The role focuses on high-throughput plant phenotyping, using UAV-based remote sensing to collect and analyze multi-sensor data like RGB, hyperspectral, and thermal imagery. The successful candidate will lead fieldwork in California, process aerial data, and apply machine learning and statistical models to predict physiological traits, helping to identify drought-resilient pea varieties for breeding programs.

    The ideal candidate will have a Ph.D. in a related field like plant physiology or computer science, with proven experience in plant phenotyping and physiological trait analysis. Key responsibilities include leading fieldwork, analyzing large datasets with software like Pix4D and ArcGIS, and using programming languages such as Python and R for data processing and predictive modeling. The position requires strong scientific writing skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team, with a U.S. visa valid through December 2027 to facilitate fieldwork.
